Peter Mokaba Stadium plans to host PSL matches

The stadium has undergone pitch rehabilitation and is set to host 40 Premier Soccer League matches in the new season.

POLOKWANE – The Sport and Recreation Directorate at the Polokwane Municipality has announced that all necessary measures have been implemented to ensure that the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex successfully hosts all 40 Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches in the upcoming 2024/25 season, commencing in August.

The 42 000-capacity World Cup stadium will be the home ground for Limpopo PSL clubs Magezi Football Club, Polokwane City Football Club and Sekhukhune United Football Club.

Additionally, prominent teams like SuperSport United and African football giants Kaizer Chiefs are likely to feature at the stadium.

Manthlako Sebaka, manager for sport and recreation at the municipality, confirmed that preparations are in full swing for the 2024/25 PSL season.

“The Peter Mokaba Sport Complex, our flagship facility, started its annual rehabilitation of the grass by scarifying the old and algae-laden turf. This process involves removing the grass and reseeding with winter rye grass. The reseeding started at the end of June, and the pitch will be ready for the PSL season starting in August 2024,” he explained.

Sebaka also noted that the municipality currently has agreements with four PSL teams, with a total of over 40 PSL matches expected to be hosted at both the city’s stadiums in the 2024/25 season.
