The Bosveld Bowls Tournament highlights the growing interest and participation in bowls within the community.

POLOKWANE – Polokwane Bowls Club hosted their annual Bosveld Bowls Tournament on July 27 and 28, drawing 72 bowlers from various clubs across the province.

The event showcased top-tier talent and competitive spirit on the bowling mats.

The tournament concluded with the team led by the legendary Evelyn Cloete, Danie du Bruyn, and Gorman Cloete clinching the victory and taking home a R12 000 cash prize.

The second place was secured by Thys Manders, Johan le Roux and Leon Vosloo, who were awarded R6 000. Ally Morrison, Dough Reed and Jorge Frietas finished in third place, winning a R3 000 cash prize.

Johan le Roux, the president of the Polokwane Bowls Club, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success.

“The event was well supported, with a lot of bowlers from different clubs in the province participating. This turnout shows that bowls as a sport is booming in Limpopo. The sport’s popularity has been rising, attracting younger and even teenage players,” he said.

Le Roux also highlighted the club’s growth: “The Polokwane Bowls Club has doubled in membership over the past three years. There is a high demand for bowls in Polokwane. We have our social business league night bowls on Wednesday evenings, and our current league is fully booked. We urge companies to enquire about the next league or book a private or company event at our lovely facilities.”

He encouraged locals to attend future events.

“This tournament featured the top players from across the province. Entry is free, and we appeal to community members to come and see how top-level bowls are played. We are located at the corner of Suid and Voortrekker streets.”

The Bosveld Bowls Tournament not only highlighted the competitive nature of the sport but also demonstrated the growing interest and participation in bowls within the community.
