Top fencers compete at Limpopo event

Limpopo's top fencers clashed in Polokwane, showcasing skill and enthusiasm in preparation for the Cape Town Fencing Competition.

POLOKWANE – Over 50 fencers from Hwiti and Ditlalemeso fencing clubs competed fiercely for top honours at the Limpopo Fencing Association’s competition held in Polokwane on July 20.

This event was a crucial part of the association’s preparations for the Cape Town Fencing Competition scheduled for August.

The competition highlighted the remarkable skill and enthusiasm of fencers from both clubs.

South African fencer Rahul van Manen delivered a standout performance, clinching gold medals in both the senior and junior epee events.

Young talent also shone brightly: nine-year-old Sebu Blaser Mapitsa continued her impressive run with a gold medal in the u/11 category, silver in u/13, and bronze in u/15 epee events.

Makhanana Mangwani from Ditlalemeso earned gold in the u/20 category and bronze in u/17.

Amani Tayob secured gold in both the u/13 and u/15 epee categories, while Kgothatso Ramaboea won gold in u/17 and bronze in the u/17 epee categories.

Renuka Ramroop, chairperson of the Limpopo Fencing Association, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success and the growing interest in fencing within the province.

“Fencing is gaining momentum here. The significant turnout led us to extend the event to two days. Congratulations to all participants for their dedication and hard work, and a special thanks to our sponsors for their continued support,” Ramroop said.
