Limpopo Lillies coach confident of success in new season

The women's cricket team prepare for the new season with friendly matches, aiming for success under coach Neo Sekokotla's guidance.

POLOKWANE – Limpopo’s women’s cricket team, the Limpopo Lillies, have lined up several preparation matches ahead of their cricket season which commences in September.

The home team is set to play several T20 and 50-over matches.

Head coach Neo Sekokotla said they will play friendly matches against other cricket franchises as part of the preparations.

“Our primary goal this season is to do well, win the championships or finish in the top three. I believe we will do well this season because the players know each other well. The team was new last year. The players have taken the time to learn from each other and know each other’s strengths and how to play as a unit.”

Neo Sekokotla head coach of the Limpopo Lillies.

Sekokotla said they will be playing Hubs Cricket Winter Squad, which consists of top women players in various areas in the province as part of their preparations.

“We want them to play against the best so that they stay on that level.”

He wished their cricketers Itumeleng Manyaga and Shelfa Mkhari well – both have been included in the South African Women’s Cricket u/19 preliminary squad that will represent the country at the 2025 ICC u/19 Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled to be hosted by Malaysia and Thailand in 2025.

This will be the first ICC World Cup to be hosted in Thailand.

“These players bring a lot to the table and we hope they will be drafted into the final team.”
