Vhembe’s Wavhudi Gymnasts prove excellence in national games

The Wavhudi Gymnastic Club won 14 medals, including 7 golds, at the national games with Coach Angel Mulaudzi expressing great pride.

LIMPOPO – The team from the Wavhudi Gymnastic Club returned home with a bag full of medals after successfully competing in the national games held on June 14 at the Centurion Matsport Centre in Pretoria.

In a history-making occasion, the 14 gymnasts from the Vhembe-based club brought home seven gold medals, three silver medals, and four bronze medals.

Angel Mulaudzi, coach of the Wavhudi Gymnastic Club, expressed their elation at winning both the regional and provincial rounds of the competition.

The provincial championships took place in April in the Waterberg District.

“We have a long history of gymnastic excellence here in Vhembe, and our province includes gymnastics as part of our extramural activities,” she said.

“We are also grateful to have understanding parents who entrust their children to our care, where we focus on more than just academic education. When young players need money for transport and other expenses, parents are always willing to assist, and we are thankful for their financial support. I could see in our players’ eyes that they envied those with proper uniforms, but they compensated by working harder to ensure they win,” she added.

Mulaudzi noted that gymnastic uniforms are quite expensive, making it difficult for the team or the parents to afford them.

“We ask for assistance in getting uniforms for the children, as they will soon compete in another competition,” she said.
