Seven trophies at nationals for Polokwane kickboxers

POLOKWANE – Four kickboxers from the Ring Kings Club made their mark at the highly anticipated South African national championships recently held in Potchefstroom, claiming a total of seven trophies.

The club opened in August last year and has already produced four athletes capable of showing their talent on a national level.

“My experience at nationals was absolutely fantastic. I competed in three items and it was tough because I don’t get the best position on a silver platter. It’s hard work that paid off. It was a phenomenal experience and I loved every second of it,” said one of the kickboxers, Marisa Nel.

Ring Kings kickboxers celebrate a successful SA national championship competition.

It was the first time too for kickboxer Wickus van Straaten, who said he loved the experience.

“Being able to have gone to the nationals to pursue my dream, was amazing,” he said.

Marisa Nel and sensei Antoinette Clarke are the current national champions in their division for 2024.

Results:

1. Sensei Antoinette Clarke – one gold and one bronze.
2. Marisa Nel – one gold and one bronze.
3. Wickus Van Straaten – one silver.
4. Caitin Van Wyk – two silver.
