Model racing action at national competition in Polokwane

The vice chairman of the Bushveld Model Club Jaco van Eeden said the event provided them with some of the most exciting racing they have seen this year.

POLOKWANE – Bushveld Model Racing in Polokwane hosted more than 70 drivers nationally at the 2024 South African Radio Drivers Association (Sarda) national competition last Saturday at the race track next to the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The competition was challenging with a good mix of open high-speed sections and tight technical sections. What also added to the challenge was the bumpy high grip carpet surface with different height obstacles.

The Bushveld Model Club in Polokwane has drivers who are between the ages of nine and 62.

Vice chairman of the club, Jaco van Eeden said all drivers drove exceptionally well.

“This was actually the first round we ever hosted this year. The drivers were impressive as usual and the weather played its part too. All the cars were controlled really well and even though some tumbled, their drivers still managed to keep up,” Van Eeden said.

The event provided them with some of the most exciting racing they have seen this year, he said, with everyone hunting for the top step of the podium.

Top qualifier drivers in the various categories were Rikus Jansen van Vuuren (4wd modified), Sean Fitzsimmons (2wd and 4wd stock), Waldo Jansen van Vuuren (2wd modified) and Jaco van Eeden (stadium trucks).
