Softball showdown in Polokwane excites fans

The Limpopo softball team will host the national provincial championships at the Polokwane cricket grounds on March 19 to 23.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo softball men and women team of players from Seshego and Mankweng will hoist the provincial flag high at the national provincial championships (NPC) scheduled for March 19 to 23 at the Polokwane cricket grounds.

The tournament will see softball teams from Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West, the Western Cape, Free State and KwaZulu-Natal exchange their bats and pitching skills in the quest for the national title.

Thapelo Seshoka, Limpopo softball team men’s coach said he will reclaim the provincial honours after Limpopo won the NPC seven times in succession, a milestone never accomplished by any other province.

Seshoka’s blueprint to rewrite the provincial history crafted by his predecessor, Lemo Raphasha was to reselect the old guard with international experience to forge a generational mix of veterans and novelty acts.

Biya Matlala, Limpopo softball team coach will have to substantiate that their bronze achievement in Durban last year was not a fluke. “Our third position was a ground-breaking feat in the record books of provincial women’s softball. The team will continue with the training camps over weekends leading up to the NPC, while domestic leagues are in full swing.”
