Polokwane mayor encourages residents to participate in city marathon

The City Marathon has been pencilled for April 27 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium while the Mayoral Golf Day will be played at the Polokwane Golf Club on May 3.

POLOKWANE – Mayor John Mpe believes the golf and marathon events scheduled for April and May this year will play a pivotal role in driving economic growth and positioning the city as a vibrant hub of tourism investment, and opportunity.

Mpe was speaking at the launch of the Polokwane City Marathon and Mayoral Charity Golf Day, held at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on March 7.

The City Marathon has been pencilled for April 27 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium while the Golf Day will be played at the Polokwane Golf Club on May 3.

Mpe says Polokwane aspires to be more than just a city and that they aim to be a beacon of excellence, innovation, and progress.

“As we continue on our journey towards metropolitan status, it is imperative that we leverage the potential of sports to propel us forward. We understand the profound importance of sports and the undeniable benefits it brings to individuals, communities, and society as a whole,” Mpe said.

For the daring souls ready to conquer the 42km, the registration fee stands at R380.

For those seeking a half-marathon challenge, the 21km race awaits you at a registration fee of R220.

Registration fee for 10km marathon is R150, and for those just starting their journey or preferring a shorter distance, the 5km race is available at a registration fee of R70.

Registration will take place from March 24 to 25 from 10:00 to 19:00, and on March 26 from 10:00 to 21:00.
