Two Safa Vhembe matches abandoned over safety concerns

Two Safa Vhembe clubs will appear before a disciplinary committee after two matches had to be called off due to safety concerns.

LIMPOPO – The match between current log leaders in the Safa Vhembe Hollywood Bet league stream E, Makhitha Oscar Stars and Ramantsha Blackpool, which had to be replayed at the Makhitha ground on Saturday, ended in chaos with only 39 minutes played in the first half.

It was reported that the match stopped after Blackpool scored an equaliser to bring the score 1-1.

An eyewitness said that after the goal, Blackpool supporters went to the pitch celebrating their team goal but that shortly afterwards, the manager director of Oscar Stars went to the pitch, instructing his players to leave due to safety reasons.

Blackpool manager Desmond Murwampheya said his team scored the equalising goal as the referee was ready to start with the match. He said he was surprised when Stars gave the instruction for players to leave over safety concerns.

According to the report by referee Thabo Mamburu, the Blackpool keeper was injured after the equalising goal.

Another match was abandoned, one in the same stream played at Louis Trichardt at Eltivillas between Mango Academy and Madombidzha Arsenal.

According to referee Khumbelo Rakhavha, a player who was given a red card assaulted an Arsenal player, causing a match official to cite safety concerns.

Secretary of Safa Vhembe, Sam Matodzi, said they were concerned about these incidents. “We want players to use soccer as a form of entertainment and create friendships.

The teams will be called to appear before a disciplinary committee after we receive a formal report from all teams and the referees, and they will be charged for the abandonment of the game”.
