Lyn Lambert: A bowls player since 1974

Lyn told Polokwane Observer that what she enjoys most about playing bowls is that it is such a sociable game for young and old.

POLOKWANE – A professional bowls player at the Limpopo Bowls Club, Lyn Lambert has been selected to compete at the SA Masters 2024 (veterans) in Pretoria at Wingate Park Bowls Club in February.

“This is a huge achievement not only for myself but for Limpopo Bowls as this has been the first time the province has been recognised to play in this prestigious competition,” Lambert remarked.

She said she started playing bowls in 1974 when her daughter was only six months old.

“My parents were into bowls. Later on, my husband also started playing, in fact, two years before me. My mother is the huge inspiration behind why I play bowls because she was a very good player,” she said.

She told Polokwane Observer that what she enjoys most about playing bowls is that it is such a sociable game for young and old.

“You meet so many people and the stigma of bowls being an old man’s game is not true at all, as we have some really good upcoming young individuals playing the game. To see how they enjoy the game, is wonderful and rewarding,” she said.

Lambert added that she practises twice or thrice a week, and the club hosts social games on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“I cannot tell you the number of competitions I have taken part in thus far, as there are just so many that I’ve even lost count. I’d like to admit that I do like the competitive side of bowls, you win some to lose some, but you always come back to try again.”

Lambert concluded by saying that she has been retired for three years now and is curious to see what life has in store for her.
