Fierce Limpopo fencers off to the Western Cape

Renuka Ramroop, chairperson of the Limpopo Fencing Association said they are aiming for gold medals at the national event.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Fencing Association assembled a formidable squad of 20 fencers who will represent the province at the Western Cape National Ranking Fencing Open set for December 2 and 3 in the Western Cape.

The team is made up of fencers from the University of Limpopo Fencing Club, Sello Maduma Fencing Academy and Fire Birds Fencing Academy and they have been working hard throughout the week sharpening their fencing skills.

Renuka Ramroop, chairperson of the Limpopo Fencing Association said they are aiming for gold medals at the national event.

“We have a good team of young fencers who just want to excel in everything they do. They will compete with fencers from various provinces in epee and foil, and we believe they will do well.”

She said their top fencer, Rahul van Manen will be aiming for a spot in the South African junior team that will participate in the Junior African Championship in Egypt in February.

“He needs to do well at the Western Cape Open in order to be included in the national team. He has been doing well in the past event and we hope that he will do better this time.”
