Limpopo female boxer Lufano ready for a rematch

The first round may have gone Mutshayi's way, especially after Mimu was felled by a punch and the referee counted to four.

LIMPOPO – Female boxer Lufuno Mutshayi from Hatshisele has asked for a rematch against Adidya Mimu from Malawi, who beat her by technical knockout in the Mama Rocks Boxing Tournament which was held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World in Polokwane on September 29.

The tournament was part of Boxing South Africa’s Rise of Women in Boxing programme, which aims to unearth new talent, give exposure to female boxers, and foster growth and empowerment within the sport.

They were competing in the junior featherweight division and the fight, which was scheduled over six rounds, lasted for only three. It was evident from the start that Mutshayi would be lucky if she survived until the end, as Mimu was all over her. The referee came to her rescue and stopped the fight in the fourth round. At that stage, Mimu was throwing killer punches at Mutshayi from all angles.

Mimu approached the fight aggressively, giving her opponent no time to breathe. The first round may have gone Mutshayi’s way, especially after Mimu was felled by a punch and the referee counted to four.

Mimu got up and continued, from that point on performing stronger and stronger until she floored Mutshayi with a powerful punch and the referee stopped the fight.

Mutshayi, saying she was not feeling well during the fight, asked for a rematch as soon as possible, to which Mimu agreed.
