Polokwane Golf Club’s Jannie wins Zebula Open ’23

Jannie Bronkhorst said his win has set a good tone for him in preparation of the South African mid-Amateur Golf Championship set for October.

POLOKWANE – Jannie Bronkhorst, a member from the Polokwane Golf Club, was announced as the winner of the Zebula Open 2023 played at Zebula Golf Estate & Spa on Sunday.

Bronkhorst beat 41 golfers from various clubs in the province to lift the cup.

The event was played in a stroke format and he scored 143 on the day.

Bronkhorst, one of the longest serving members of the local club, also won the 2023 Koro Open Championship held at Koro Creek in May.

“It was nice to win again. I am happy to be the overall winner of the tournament.”

He added that the feat has set a good tone for him for the preparations of the South African mid-Amateur Golf Championship set for the Reading Country Club in Gauteng, set for October 4 to 9.

“I want to play well and win the event. I started with the preparations early this year and I am in good shape. I am looking forward to a great tournament.”

JP Ellis, operations manager from the Limpopo Golf Union said they are proud of Bronkhorst’s achievement.

“He showed his character in absorbing pressure. The resemblance of his character prevailed on the day. We are happy that his golf is peaking at the right time. He is a great example to youngsters and we are confident he will do us proud at the national championship.”
