Limpopo Lillies eye spot in Cricket South Africa’s first division

Team coach Neo Sekokotla said they have assembled a strong team that practices every day to ensure their growth in the game.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Impalas senior women’s cricket team are aiming for a spot in the first division of Cricket South Africa (CSA).

The Lillies, as they are affectionately known in cricket circles, finished division two in third spot last season, and would need to win more matches in the same division to qualify for the next division when the league resumes in September.

If they qualify, they will be able to compete with top cricket franchises in the country including Titans, Lions, Warriors and Knights.

Team coach Neo Sekokotla said they have assembled a strong team that can compete with any other team.

“We have been struggling but there is room for improvement. We are practicing every day because we want to do better and break that curse. Our advantage is that the whole team is in Polokwane and players all live in one area. This is good because they are able to train at the same time. We stand a good chance of competing in division one, but we need to win our matches in the current division.”

All-rounder Kushi Mistry said the possibility is good to attain their goal.

“The dream is still alive, we want to see ourselves in division one cricket. We gel well as a team and can compete in the first division. We just need to win more matches and accumulate more points in every match.”
