Rising Stars show off on the tennis court

The event was facilitated by tennis academy SRE Tennis and saw schools' teams exchanging their best shots in their attempt for top honours.

POLOKWANE – A total of 46 teams, comprising 184 players and 46 team managers of 22 schools from across Limpopo converged at the Polokwane Tennis Club on August 4 to participate in the provincial edition of the BNP Paribas RCS Rising Star Tennis tournament – the second biggest edition hosted countrywide.

The event was facilitated by tennis academy SRE Tennis, under the guidance and arrangements of tournament director Ernest Faver, and saw schools’ teams exchanging their best shots in their attempt for top honours. Rising Star Tennis is a flagship programme of Tennis South Africa and aims to create opportunities for schools and tennis players from the communities and increasing youth participation in tennis.

In terms of results, the girls A team from Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos took the first podium spot in the girls top 8 category, with Letlotlo Primary School from Seshego second, and the Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos B team finishing third.

The boys top 8 category was won by Laerskool Nylstroom’s A team with Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos A finishing second, and Eureka Primary School in third spot.

Faver expressed his gratitude towards Tennis SA for bringing the tournament to the province, and to the Polokwane Municipality for making the club and its facilities available on the day.

“We saw tremendous talent on these courts over the span of the two days, and we want to congratulate all the winning teams. Judging by the number of entries, the development of tennis is surely on the rise in Limpopo.”

In addition, he thanked TSA’s Anthony Moruthane and Mpho Makhoba, Limpopo Tennis chairperson H.L. Choma, Capricorn District Tennis Federation chairperson Dan Ramokgopa for their contribution to the event.
