Shaun Mouton’s experience prevails at Closed Match Play tourney

The Polokwane Golf Club's Shaun Mouton defended his title as he had won the same tournament last year.

POLOKWANE – Shaun Mouton from the Polokwane Golf Club won the Limpopo Closed Match Play Championship 2023, played at Steelpoort Golf Club on Friday, beating a field of others golfers to the title.

JP Ellis, chief operations manager at the Limpopo Golf Union said Mouton’s experience prevailed on the day.

“It all came down to the last hole and it made things so much more interesting. Shaun won the event last year so he was defending his title and he did well. The event was played in a match play 54-hole format and only golfers in the province were allowed to participate. Shaun was the top performing golfer on the day.”

Ellis said they wish him all the best in his last remaining golf events of the year.

“He has been selected to be part of the Limpopo mid amateur golf team that will represent the province at the South African mid amateur golf event which will take place in Gauteng in October. We are confident that he will do well.”

Mouton said he was happy to have won the provincial event.

“It was good to play with the top golfers in the province and I want to do well at the national event. I am positive that I will perform to my best ability.”

Ellis said they will host the Mogol Open in Lephalale on August 19: the tournament will see 70 golfers from various clubs battling it out for top honours at the pristine Mogol Golf Course.
