Silver at qualifier for UL bodybuilder

Lefa Mothipi said he only went to gym to get in shape and be fit but became a bodybuilder when he got to university.

POLOKWANE – University of Limpopo’s Lefa Mothipi was excited after he was announced as the runner-up at the provincial International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation qualifier that was held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on July 30.

What makes his achievement special is that he competed in the u/70kg category, while his actual group is the u/60kg category.

“I am proud of myself to have made it this far in another category. I competed against big guys, and still came second.”

Mothipi will be representing Limpopo at the nationals in the first week of September.

He told BONUS that when he first started training back in high school, he did not even know that it was a fully-fledged sport.

“I only went to gym to get in shape and be fit, and when I got to university I was asked by a friend if I wanted to become a bodybuilder. I then decided to join the university’s team and started competing, and I formed part of the team that represented UL at the USSA bodybuilding team.”

He described bodybuilding as a demanding sport that is hard to maintain. “The kinds of food and supplements required to keep in good shape are often above my budget.”

He has asked the community to assist him with donations to achieve his dream to one day represent SA abroad.
