Frustration as municipality upgrades Noordelikes’ field

Noordelikes coach Hendrik van Jaarsveldt says they are pleading with the municipality to expedite the process as the wait is taking its toll on players.

POLOKWANE- Extended upgrades at the Noordelikes Rugby Club field in Ladanna are taking a toll on rugby and soccer players alike.

The Polokwane Municipality started resurfacing grass in July, and the process is set to be complete at the end of August.

The field is also used by Polokwane City Football and Cas alternative training venues.

Noordelikes coach Hendrik van Jaarsveldt says they are pleading with the municipality to expedite the process as the wait is taking its toll on players.

“We don’t have an alternative training venue and we have tournaments lined up. The players are itching to go on to the field and train. As athletes, it is frustrating to sit and wait.”

Mantlako Sebaka, manager for sport and recreation at the municipality, confirmed that the upgrades will be completed at the end of August.

“We are laying kikuyu grass at Noordelikes, which is the same grass we put in at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. We are doing so because we want the facility to continue to be the preferred choice of venue for rugby and soccer.”

Sebaka confirmed that once the process is completed, not everyone will be able to make use of the facility.

“Once completed, the facility will only be available to those who have made a booking.”
