Casius paves the way for youngsters

The Limpopo Sports School of Excellence Soccer Academy hopes their players will follow in the footsteps of Sundowns player and alumni, Casius Mailula.

LIMPOPO- Hendric Mukwevho, coach at the Limpopo Sports School of Excellence Soccer Academy in Polokwane, advised his players to follow in the footsteps of their former star player, Casius Mailula.

Mauila is expected to join major soccer league outfit Toronto Football Club in the US in August, from PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mailula joined the academy in 2011 and represented the country in the junior and senior level competitions.

The 22-year-old won the PSL Young Player of the Year Award last season with Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I am proud to have produced a player of his calibre. His mother brought him to the academy when he was 12 years old. She just said to me that her son loves soccer and she would love to see him making it big one day.

It was easy to work with Cassius because he was disciplined, attentive to instructions and committed to the game. He won a lot of local competitions with us and he was our captain. There are many talented players in the province but their problem is that they lack discipline. I would like to see many players in the academy following in his footsteps,” Mukwevho said.

He says the move to the major soccer league will open doors to a lot of soccer players in the country.

“He has shown the entire country that it is impossible to further your soccer career abroad. He has opened a lot of doors for many soccer players in Polokwane. They just have to work hard in order to be like him.”
