An hour a day for a fitter you – Mokopane fitness instructor

Fitness instructor Shenn Mboyana says exercise keeps one young and agile and says the gym is a place where people can socialise too.

MOKOPANE- “It is important to start a fitness journey, because our body is the only place we have to live in,” is the advice of fitness instructor Shenn Mboyana, who is also the manager of TSB Gym.

By starting any kind of fitness journey, it is important to make sure that your body performs 110%, he said.

“To be fit makes you productive and keeps all lifestyle conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes under control.” Mboyana has over 13 years of experience in personal training.

He started his fitness journey in Johannesburg before moving to Giyani and then Venda eventually returning to Mokopane. He says he became a personal trainer in an effort to assist people and give back to the community.

“I usually joke and say, fitness and gym are like my church. When I am here, I experience the gospel via fitness.

“Our bodies are the Lord’s temples, so we have to take care of it.”

He describes the benefits of exercise as keeping you young and agile, and says the gym is a place where people can socialise too.

“The gym is a place where you meet new people and have fun in a healthy way. A healthy body creates somebody who performs in life too.”

If you can’t make it to a gym, Mboyana has a few tips for you to get in shape.

Shenn Mboyana checks on Emily Marome’s progress.

“Start with some cardio warmups such as jumping jacks. It is also a full body workout. If you have a skipping rope, set a target for yourself by doing 100 skips. Do some squads too – start with 15 repetitions of four sets each and then some burpees. Start small and add five repetitions every day. You have to push yourself in this fitness journey, according to your fitness level.”

To stay hydrated is also important, he added.

“Drink lots of water, and try to exercise four days of the week and then rest over the weekend. An hour a day can make the world of difference.”
