Easter Race at oval track a drifting success

Car enthusiasts and petrol heads from the city and surrounding provinces gathered at the Polokwane showgrounds to enjoy another instalment of the Unique Polokwane Easter Race on April 8.

POLOKWANE – A myriad of car enthusiasts, petrol heads and ordinary residents from the city and neighbouring provinces descended on the Polokwane showgrounds on April 8, to enjoy another instalment of the Unique Raceway Polokwane Easter Race.

A total of 28 sports cars from different motorsport clubs in the country raced against each other, with drivers showing off their drifting and swerving skills to enthrall and excite an enthusiastic crowd.

Wessel Smit from Unique Raceway said they are happy to bring back motorsport to the local circuit.

“The event was well received by spectators, and we were happy to organise it. Although it was Easter weekend, the turnout was better than we expected. We planned for roughly 500 people, but eventually had almost double. We had food, drinks and music on the day and various forms of entertainment for the children and families.”

He said they want to thank all the families and petrol heads who came to support the event.

The event was backed by top South African driving officials who ensured that everything ran smoothly, he added.

“All the cars were checked for roadworthiness before the races and all protocol was observed to ensure a smooth event which everyone enjoyed tremendously.
