Community work leads to upgrade of Nirvana Cricket Club

The president of the Nirvana Premier League Faizal Ramdala said the upgraded facility is for the community and young cricketers from all over the province.

POLOKWANE – The president of the Nirvana Premier League (NPL) Faizal Ramdala said they want to turn the Nirvana Cricket Club into a world class oval.

Ramdala spoke to the Polokwane Observer before the auction for the second installment of the NPL, which was a roaring success last season.

He said they are happy with the strides they have made to reach the envisaged goal and boast a repainted and refurbished club house as well as new nets at the grounds for cricketers in the community to use.

“We started with the refurbishments last year and thus far we have painted the poles around the oval, uplifted the grandstands and the screens. We have also put in the new nets and new mats,” he said.

Ramdala said they are doing this for their own gain but rather for the community and young cricketers from all over the province who want to make use of the facility.

He said they are hoping to install flood lights in the next phase of refurbishments so that they are able to play night games.

Ramdala added that preparations for the NPL, penciled for April 1, are at advanced stage.

“We had an auction on March 4 where 216 players from all over the province were auctioned to the 12 teams in the league,” he said.

The league will start after Ramadan which will start on March 23.

“All players are ready and anticipating the start of the NPL,” he added.
