Mamelodi Sundowns to play against Orlando Pirates in Polokwane

Mamelodi Sundowns will play their MTN 8 semi-final home fixture against Orlando Pirates at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex in October.

POLOKWANE – The Peter Mokaba Sports Complex will play host to Mamelodi Sundowns FC and Orlando Pirates FC in a MTN 8 semi-final clash on October 22.

The match will be considered a home fixture for Sundowns and the club said they are excited to play in the City of Stars.

Sundowns’ national supporter coordinator Cedric Moela said Limpopo is their home away from home and that they look forward to playing in a soccer-loving province.

“We hope our supporters come out in numbers for us to give them a chance to see their favourite team in action,” Moela told the Polokwane Observer.

He added that support for the club is growing across borders and it will be nice to see people from Limpopo fill up the stadium for the game.

The match is scheduled to start at 15:00.

Soccer lovers and fans of the two teams shared their views about the upcoming fixture:

Emmanuel Ramatapa: I am glad that we will finally get to see two of the most popular teams in South Africa play against each other in our city. I am looking forward to it.
Boitumelo Madibana: The people of Polokwane will benefit a lot from the match as we will get to see our favourite players at home. Hopefully, the match will draw visitors from other provinces to come and enjoy the game with us.
Duduzile Khumalo: People are already anticipating the match. It is nice that Polokwane is getting a chance to host without having to travel far to places like the Moses Mabida Stadium. It will give Limpopo recognition and excite supporters.
Herrance Ramakalela: It’s strange to have a team play a league game far from their home ground, but I like that Sundowns are doing this for their fans in Limpopo as they will spend less on travelling to see the game.
