Aces aplenty at Mayoral Tennis Tournament

A total of 100 tennis players from across the district gathered at the Polokwane Tennis Club last Saturday to participate in the annual Mayoral Tennis Tournament.

POLOKWANE – Member of the mayoral committee for housing at the Polokwane Municipality, Joosuf Pemma, on behalf of Mayor John Mpe, wished all players well for the matches.

“Mayor John Mpe prioritises two things in particular; education and sports development. Days like these are close to his heart, and the municipality stands behind initiatives such as these 100%,” he remarked.

He quoted world-renowned player Serena Williams who said that without taking the first step and working hard, success would be difficult to come by.

On a day perfect for some aces, volleys and great sportsmanship, players from as far as the clubs in Louis Trichardt and Mokopane joined in on the fun. As usual, the University of Limpopo’s players once again came in their numbers to support the endeavour.

The format on the day was doubles, and once the scores were entered and the day’s winners announced, everyone had a leisurely time at the club.

Suzan Temple, on behalf of the local tennis club, said the turnout on the day was awesome, with great tennis and many new friendships formed.

“The annual Mayoral Tournament is a highlight on our tennis calendar, and an opportunity for players to come together and not only enjoy some great shots, but also form new friendships too. Thank you to everyone who participated, and also to our sponsors who generously contributed to the success of the day.”
