Pride held the trials in an effort to bolster the team ahead of the 2022 Basketball National League season that commences in October.

Limpopo Basketball Association secretary Phetolo Mahana said the trials give aspiring basketball players the opportunity to be part of the team.

“There is lot of basketball talent in the province and it is our duty as administrators to unearth and protect it. We can’t compete for the championship with the same players we had last season. We need new players who are eager to win,” Mahana explained.

He added that the trials went well, but that they have not finalised their team yet. “We have invited some of them to prove themselves to the technical team again on August 20.”

Pride will contest the trophy against the North West Eagles, Egoli Magic, KwaZulu Marlins, Western Cape Mountaineers, Soweto Panthers, Eastern Cape Windbreakers, Tshwane Suns, Northern Cape Zebras and the Mpumalanga Rhinos.

“We started early with our preparations for the league because we want to do well and eventually win the trophy. We have never won the title before, but it is not improbable to win it,” Mahana said.
