VIDEO: Greg honours liver donor at Transplant Games in Gqeberha

Greg Serradinho was the only athlete to represent Limpopo at the games and said he dedicated his efforts to his late donor who gave him another chance at life.

POLOKWANE – Greg Serradinho recently competed in the 2022 South African National Transplant Games in Gqeberha to honour his liver donor.

Greg represented his club Mega Athletics and was the only athlete to represent Limpopo at the games.

The Transplant Games Association of South Africa was established in April 1994 by a small group of organ-transplantees, who felt the need for an organization that would promote an active lifestyle and an involvement in various sporting activities to transplant recipients.

The Transplant Games is held every two years where athletes can qualify for the World Transplant Games held every alternate year.

Greg ran in the 100m and the 200m race and participated in the long jump.

“This is the most amazing feeling and I dedicate my achievements to my late donor who gave me another chance of life. I know they’re proud of this moment. I’m extremely grateful for the gift of life they gave me because I am able to live another day and experience days like this,” he said.

He emphasised that his donor is his life-long hero. “My sport shoes are engraved with the word ‘hero’ because every competition I participate in, is in honour of my donor.”

Greg will represent South Africa in the 100m and squash events at the World Transplant Games in Australia next year.

Coach George Mohale congratulated Greg and wished him well for the games next year.
