Self defence classes now available in Nirvana

Annetjie De Jager hosts classes at the Nirvana Sports Community Hall and hopes to get children involved in training, especially in karate and self-defence.

POLOKWANE – After a request from the Nirvana sports community, Yin-Yang Karate and Self Defense Studio opened a branch in the area.

Annatjie de Jager granted their wish and officially opened a dojo last Tuesday.

De Jager’s first dojo was established in Ladanna and is proud of her second dojo at the Nirvana Sports Community Hall.

“I used to host karate classes at a house in Nirvana, but had to stop hosting classes there due to Covid-19-restrictions. The classes were inconvenient for the hosting family and the karatekas. There were numerous requests to host classes in the area, and I decided to sign a contact with the municipality to make use of the sports hall. We cleaned the hall and it is now usable again,” Annatjie said.

She explained the hall was once used as a drug den where young boys and girls gathered for all the wrong reasons.

“We are now able to take some of those boys and girls off the streets and invite them to our dojo. It will encourage them to learn new skills,” Annatjie added.

She said she aims to get children involved in training, especially in karate and self-defence. “We want to get the children from the streets of Westenburg, Seshego and Ivypark involved,” she said.
