New belts for Kimura Shukokai karatekas

The karatekas, under the tutelage of sensei Marcia van Niekerk, participated in a grading ceremony held in Gauteng on June 8.

POLOKWANE – In karate, a kata is defined as a series of moves, usually between 20-70, that involves stepping and turning.

These moves are executed as the karateka attempts to maintain the perfect form.

Karatekas from Kimura Shukokai Karate in Polokwane recently showed that they excel in katas.

The karatekas, under the tutelage of sensei Marcia van Niekerk, participated in a grading ceremony held in Gauteng on June 8.

Georgia Funnell and Maricia and Vanessa Cronjé received brown belts for their outstanding performance in kata.

Van Niekerk said she is happy by the progress made by the karatekas in the club.

“It was very cold in the hall and the karatekas had to be strong-minded against the cold. Everybody was happy to see their other karate friends even if they had to compete against them. Our karatekas have been working hard and we hope they continue to put in the effort.”
