Soccer star Lesiba Ramabula laid to rest

His funeral was attended by representatives from Mamelodi Sundowns, Turfloop 95 FC, Molemole Academy, Limpopo School of Excellence and his former teachers.

POLOKWANE – The family of Lesiba Ramabula said they were still expecting a lot from the late soccer player.

“We are saddened by his untimely death. He was talented and he had expressed he would love to play for the Mamelodi Sundowns first team and Arsenal Football Club in the English Premier League one day,” family spokesperson Bennet Ramabula said.

Teammates and friends of Ramabula gathered at his house in Seshego Zone 1 on March 6 to pay their last respects to the departed sport star.

Ramabula died after being struck by lightning in Seshego on March 1 and was laid to rest at the Seshego cemetery.

The 21-year-old who played for Mamelodi Sundowns development team is survived by his two parents and three siblings. His funeral was attended by representatives from Mamelodi Sundowns, Turfloop 95 FC, Molemole Academy, Limpopo School of Excellence and his former teachers.

Bayano Moloto who coached him at Molemole Academy and Turfloop Academy said Lesiba was a versatile player who was loved by everyone. “I won many trophies with him at Molemole and we are saddened by the loss. We extend our condolences to his family, friends and teammates. He was a humble boy and a true leader and one of the most hard working players I have ever met in my soccer career.”

William Motlanthe who worked with him at Seshego Capricorn Eleven Football Academy said Lesiba was disciplined and committed to football. “We lost a talented young footballer who had a bright future ahead of him. Our condolences to his teammates, family and friends.”
