Local fencing chair eyes national sports award

Renuka Ramroop has been involved in fencing for years and has played a pivitol role in ensuring the sport grows in leaps and bounds in the province.

POLOKWANE – Chairperson of the Limpopo Fencing Association, Renuka Ramroop has been nominated for the Volunteer of the Year award at the South African Sports Awards to the hosted at the Durban Iinternational Convention Centre on March 12.

Renuka got the nod after winning the Provincial Volunteer Award at the Limpopo Sports Awards at Meropa Casino on February 26.

She has been involved in fencing for years and has played a pivitol role in ensuring that the sport grows in leaps and bounds in the province.

“We only had five fencers when we first started and we now boast with more than 100 fencers across the province. That is a huge achievement for us and the province,” she told the Polokwane Observer.

Renuka said she has been involved in the development of fencing and its administration side for a number of years and wants to see the sport grow more and see those involve flourish.

“I am happy with the national nomination and it will be a bonus if I win the award,” she said.
