[VIDEO] Moloto’s fast pace to cricket success

Seshego's promising fast pace bowler Lesego Moloto believes he has enough talent to dazzle selectors at one of biggest cricket franchises in the country as well as the national team.

POLOKWANE – Moloto made history recently when he became the only cricket player from Seshego to be selected in the South African Cricket Rural Week team.

The 28-year-old process plant operations graduate was one of Limpopo’s best performers at the recent Cricket South Africa (CSA) Rural Week tournament which was held in Polokwane.

He was one the best bowlers of the tournament and took three wickets at the expense of only two runs in Limpopo’s T20 match against Mpumalanga.

Moloto had another fine display of bowling in their match against North West in which he took three wickets and only conceded 20 runs.

The former Lotanang Primary School and Khaiso Secondary School learner could not believe his eyes when CSA selectors mentioned his name among top emerging cricketers in the county.

“The selection has not sunk in yet because I did not expect the call up. When coach Ntsako Sono included me in the provincial squad, the aim was just to enjoy myself. I did not think of a place in the national team setup, because the minute you think about that, you put yourself under unnecessary pressure. Those expectations have a way of affecting one’s game.”

Moloto said the call-up will catapult his cricket career. “The national call-up is an inspiration on its own and I think I am on the right track. I just need to work extra hard, but my cricket dreams are still possible, others have achieved them. I want to play for the Titans cricket franchise and maybe a cricket team outside the country. I have what it takes.”

He extended his gratitude to his brother who introduced him to cricket and his family for supporting his cricket journey. “I don’t think I could have achieved what I have achieved if it was not for my family. I come from a background where cricket is only played by those with heavy pockets. We are just an ordinary family and we don’t have much, but with their little resources they were able to obtain a cricket kit for me,” he said and gave credit to coach Sono who showed faith in him.
