Local tennis stars ace ProKennex Mini tournament
Players from all corners of the province and beyond participated in the TSA Limpopo ProKennex Mini 1 tournament last weekend, hosted by the Polokwane Tennis Club.
POLOKWANE – Local players fared exceptionally well, proving that local tennis is indeed lekker and coaching of a high standard.
Local tennis coach and player, Sarel van Rooyen won the men’s singles draw, beating Gerald Kruger from Gauteng 6-0,6-3.
Celente Badenhorst from PHS successfully made it through to the semi-finals in the women’s division, initially ending in third spot after beating Lesedi Maluleke by 6-2, 6-0.
In the boys doubles for u/12’s, local brothers Wian and Adriaan du Plessis took first spot after defeating their Gauteng counterparts. Adriaan also won the singles division in this age group.
Tournament director Ernest Faver described the tournament as a huge success.
“Our club consistently hosts successful tournaments of this nature and welcome our tennis counterparts from local clubs and those beyond our borders. We want to thank everyone involved in this tremendous effort. Congratulations to all the winners and all the players who participated. Also, a huge ‘thank you’ from our side to the Polokwane Municipality, for the opportunity to host our tournaments at the local club.”
