Local cricketers selected for SA school team

Ntsako Emmanuel Sono, Limpopo Impala Cricket u/19 framework head coach, is excited for the young cricketers who were selected for the South African u/19 school team.

POLOKWANE – He said two of their players, Nicholas Adendorff and Shelton Ngobeni, who were chosen at the Khaya Majola Cricket Week, which took place in Potchefstroom in December, stand a good chance to represent the national team in the near future.

Adendorff was the top wicket-taker of the week while Shelton managed to garner enough runs at the end of the week to impress the selectors. Sono said the players are still young and they have a bright future ahead of them.

“I told the team prior to the event that if players from Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal can make it into the South African schools team, they also stand a good chance to join that elite group of young cricketers. This is a step in the right direction and I reminded them that through hard work they can achieve all their goals,” Sono said.

Another player who did well during the week was Khaif Patel, who will represent the Northerns Titans at the cricket cubs week, which started in Cape Town from January 10 and is expected to end on January 15.

The cubs week is well-known for nurturing young players’ talent and keeping them in the pipeline structures of Cricket South Africa. The 18-year-old cricketer previously represented Limpopo Impala Cricket at the age of 13 at national tournaments, and in 2019 he was the captain at the CSA Momentum u/17 National tournament where he was scouted to form part of the Titans Region pipeline.

“He was at the event last year and I think with experience he will perform better and won’t be as nervous as last year. All he needs to do is to perform and raise his hand. We wish him all the best.”
