Turner has big rugby dreams

Noordelikes Rugby Club winger Shelton Turner hopes to become a Springbok or a player for the Saracens and Sale Shark rugby teams in England.

POLOKWANE – The 26-year-old owner of Lifting for Christ fitness and high performance centre in Polokwane is one of the top players in the club.

Turner joined the team four years ago when he moved to Polokwane with his family from Vereeniging.

“I am still young and I want to achieve a lot in the rugby industry. I have a good chance, I just need to work hard to make that dream a reality.”

Growing up, Turner’s life was riddled with social ills and he struggled with substance abuse. He says he never thought he would play rugby again and become a businessman to better society.

“I lived a rebellious life. I roamed the streets, I had problems with drugs and it was not easy, but the Lord saved me. I am where I am today because of His grace. Jesus took all my burdens away. I have been given an opportunity, a second chance in life and these are the goals I want to achieve with this new lease on life.”

Just like other players at the club, Turner says he looks forward to the club’s matches that are set to resume in March next year.

“We want to start a new year with a bang. We aspire to be the fittest, strongest and most competitive team in the league. We have a winning mentality and we want to win every match and tournament next year.”
