Baobabs disappointed over league results

Limpopo Netball Association president Christina Shikwambana cannot believe Limpopo Baobabs' loss of a podium position at the Telkom Knockout Netball Challenge.

POLOKWANE – The team finished the league in fourth position after they suffered a 41-42 loss to the Mpumalanga Sunbirds in the final moments of the match in Gauteng on October 16. Shikwambana said if they had prepared well for the second round of the matches they would have had a better outcome.

“We wish we prepared better prior to the second round of the league because that would have helped us to change our tactics and strategy.

“It was a painful loss and not easy to digest at all. We wanted to prepare differently because most of the teams had already done research on us. They knew our weaknesses and they capitalised on that.”

She said despite the unfavourable results, they were happy with the overall performance of the team at the league.

“This is a huge improvement from last season and we will still aim for gold next season. We had the best team this season, which we want to retain in the next season.

“We pray and hope that the players we had won’t be approached by other franchises outside the province.

“We lost a lot of players in the past to other netball franchises. We value the lessons we learned at the league and we believe we will be stronger in the next season.”
