Swimmers ready to swim for gold in Limpopo swimming gala

The event will see swimmers from clubs in Groblersdal, Tzaneen, Musina, Louis Trichardt, Polokwane and Mokopane chasing their best times for next year's national and local events.

POLOKWANE – The vice-president of Limpopo Swimming Aquatics, Rob Anderson said all swimmers from various swimming clubs in the province are ready to compete during the upcoming Limpopo swimming gala scheduled for October 16 at the local municipal pool.

Anderson said the event will see swimmers from clubs in Groblersdal, Tzaneen, Musina, Louis Trichardt, Polokwane and Mokopane chasing their best times for next year’s national and local events. “This will be a big gala of the new season which will also be used as a stepping stone for aspiring swimmers who have not participated in gala events before. We will have more new swimmers on the day and we are ready to welcome them.”

Some of the local household swimmers expected at the event are Christine Fabo Mbite, Junior Pheeha and Jenny Zang. “The three swimmers have done well in their provincial events in the past. They have also participated in the national swimming events and their presence at the gala will inspire other swimmers.”

Anderson added that through the event they hope to produce and discover international swimmers and Olympians. “Swimming has done well in the recent Olympics and it was one of the federations that accumulated more medals. In the next Olympics we would like to see swimmers from Limpopo in the national swimming team. We are capable, we just need to help our swimmers to achieve that goal.”
