Young gymnast is poised for greatness

Candice Kekana (10) says gymnastics has taught her to be brave and confident in whatever she does.

POLOKWANE – Bet-Shalom Christian School Gr 4 learner Candice Kekana (10) has been doing gymnastics since the age of three years at Zanis Gymnastics Academy.

Candice has been attending Bet-Shalom Christian School since Gr R and grew to love gymnastics.

“I love gymnastics because of the new life it gave me and how it has shaped the person I am today. I believe gymnastics is basically a life lesson because it has taught me patience, time management, never to give up, to keep on dreaming, to be brave and confident,” Candice said.

She told Polokwane Observer that her mentors have taught her that gymnastics helps one build their self-confidence, determination and better communication skills.

“I can multitask doing my school work and extra mural activities by completing my homework in class first so that when it’s time for gymnastics I’m done with everything. So I manage it very well,” she said.

She added that she loves her school because it teaches her about Christianity.

“We learn about the Word of God and how to love one another. We learn how to be one in the school and that’s why I feel like we’re all family because everyone is so welcoming and friendly,” she said.

Candice has won multiple medals and trophies in gymnastic competitions. She wants to be a successful businesswoman and a professional gymnast when she grows up.
