League games are played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Tenpin on Grimm.

POLOKWANE – Tenpin bowling is one of those fun things the entire family can enjoy. With a ball and ten pins at the end of the lane it offers hours of entertainment for young and old.

Tenpin bowling is an Olympic event, and local tenpin bowling leagues fall under the Tenpin Bowling Association of South Africa.

In Polokwane visitors to Tenpin on Grimm might have noticed league games being played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Polokwane Observer spoke to Carl Lechner, co-owner of Tenpin on Grimm, about the leagues.

“We started five years ago with this initiative and it quickly became a huge success. There are four teams on Tuesday and four on Wednesday competing for the number one position. The current league started a few weeks ago and entries are closed, but shortly after the school holiday we will host another league.”

Lechner explains the two teams from each day with the most points will play in the final. The finals will be a knockout round over three games with the highest combined total.

“There are four people in a team and they play to win lots of prizes from Distel, Westvaal Polokwane and The Steakshop. Each team dresses according the their team’s theme. You can play with socks or barefoot and we play with house balls which make it easier to play.”

Though the league is not open to children we will introduce a schools league soon. It is a family sport where friends get together and have fun. They also make new friends. The players welcome spectators to motivate them.
