Young golfers embark on 3 week golf journey

Golf instructor at Polokwane Golf Club Mike Baylis says he is happy with the progress young golfers from Moletjie are making in their golf development programme.

POLOKWANE – The young golfers embarked on a three-week golf journey to explore and learn more about the elite sporting code.

Baylis said they started with the golf clinics in the second week of June and the young golfers are doing well. “We taught advanced coaching skills and an overall introduction to the golf course. We also focused on the short game as well as some basic golf rules and etiquette. We wanted them to get used to the golf course and they are doing well. They are able to play regularly. We are also fascinated by their eagerness and their will to learn the game.”

He also mentioned that they have extra sessions for those who are struggling with the basics. “We have a few that are struggling with the basics but it is our duty as coaches to give them more time and be patient with them. They are so committed and they are willing to improve and we will sharpen their claws.”

They are not yet ready for competitions but some can play on their own and that is encouraging. We are happy with the strides they are making and we cannot wait to see them as fully equipped golfers.”

Baylis announced that they will host another group of aspiring golfers from Mokopane in August. “The group will consist of children from the ages of 10 to 13 years. We are ready for them and we are looking forward to impart our golf knowledge on them.”
