POLOKWANE – The 16-year-old Gr 11 learner at Hoërskool Pietersburg won the Limpopo Golf Union Committee Open Junior Division at Polokwane Golf Club with rounds of 74 and 79 gross (72 and 77 nett) on July 24.
The ardent golfer stressed that the feat will encourage him to perform better at the upcoming South Africa boys u/17 golf tournament scheduled for later this year.
At the tournament Schulenburg will and compete against the country’s top young golfers.
He wants to follow in the footsteps of Northern Ireland professional golfer Rory McIlroy and South African professional golfer, who won the 2010 Open Championship, Louis Oosthuizen.
“This is the beginning of good things to come. I think I am on the right track. I need to play more and remain focused. I want to be successful and I want to follow in the footsteps of Rory and Louis.
“I love their playing style and their dominance in the game.”
