The spin-offs of softball

An executive member of the Limpopo Softball Association, Benny Boshomane has urged young players from the association to maximise and leverage on the economic opportunities that the sport presents.

POLOKWANE – Boshomane says they want players to emulate the likes of Moses Vasna Molaba and Tidima Kekana who have represented the country and the province in major international softball events.

He described Molaba and Kekana as some of the good ambassadors of the association.

“Their international run has exposed them to corporate and reputable sporting organisations in the country and the world.”

Molaba is a coordinator in the softball academy in the Western Cape and Kekana is regularly invited by international softball clubs in Canada and Australia to play.

“Their success is a result of their hard work and dedication to the sporting code. We want players from the development ranks to follow in their footsteps. Molaba hails from Seleteng village in the Ga-Mphahlele area Kekana from Zebediela and those are rural areas which do not have proper infrastructure and resources.

“They have shown that it does not matter where you come from. We are saying to our players from various villages in the province that they can still achieve their dreams irrespective of their circumstance and backgrounds. There are a lot of opportunities in softball. If they do well they might be directors of sport elsewhere, international coaches or administrators.”

He added that currently they have local players including Lucas Lamola, Petunia Kgoloane and Sylvester Maredi who have represented the country in international softball tournaments.

“These are the future players for the association. They are still young and have huge potential. They all have more than 10 caps for the national team and that is encouraging. We want them to be the next ambassadors of our association,” Boshomane concluded.
