UL soccer to represent at Varsity Games

The team has been doing well in the Varsity Football Cup since its initiation and has been dubbed as one of the strongest competitors in the competition.

LIMPOPO – The Director of Sport at the University of Limpopo (UL), Kakata Maponyane, says the female soccer team gained experience over the past seasons of the Varsity Football Cup that will propel them to greater heights this coming season, which starts September.

The team has been doing well in the cup since its initiation and has been dubbed as one of the strongest competitors in the competition.

They also got as far as the group stages and the play-offs in the University Sports South Africa, Varsity Shield and the Sasol Women’s League in the past years.

“We have done well in the past and we will continue with the same form and spirit. We want to assemble a strong team that is competitive and capable of winning any tournament, and we have enough time to prepare for the cup.

“Last year, we did not participate due to the Covid-19 lockdown, and the girls are itching to get back on the field and play.

We have already started with preparations and we are going to rope in younger players who will take up the positions left vacant by those who graduated,” Maponyane said.
