Revived Seshego Football League to focus on the future

The Seshego Football League will now be known as the Boy Mamabolo League and comprise u/10, u/13, u/15 and u/17 teams from the area.

POLOKWANE – The Seshego Football League will now be known as the Boy Mamabolo League. The newly revived league was recently launched at the Honeymoon Lodge in Seshego Zone 7 and will comprise u/10, u/13, u/15 and u/17 teams from the area.

Chairperson of the Boy Mamabolo Foundation, Boy Mamabolo, said it is a dream come true to have the league named after him. “I have always dreamed of sponsoring a league in my township (Seshego). I am a product of this league and played for teams such as Mighty FC, Ria Stars and Citizens FC. We are where we are today because this league took us off the street and allowed us to become focused.”

Mamabolo added that the development of children is important, which is why the league features u/10’s. “Our children must grow up having role models and stay away from substance abuse. We want to develop them so that others can look up to them.”

Mamabolo said parliament had deployed members to several areas around the country in an attempt to plough back into the community. “We have invited members of the South African Football Association’s (Safa) Capricorn region so that by the time we expand to other regions, the league would be well established. This is a good foundation and we hope to succeed,” he said.

Safa Limpopo Chairman, Jack Maluleke said it is now important for those with useful resources to come together and share their knowledge to develop the game further. “We are happy that Mamabolo took this step not only as a sponsor but supporting the region. We support this initiative and will make sure that it is not only in this region but escalated to others as well,” Maluleke added.

Danny Jordaan (SAFA President)

Also in attendance was Safa President, Danny Jordaan, who labelled the league a ‘wonderful initiative’. “It has been almost six months of no football. This is a wonderful start to getting the youth back on the football field. We as Safa are delighted,” he concluded.
