Cricket in Limpopo hit for a 60 day suspension

Cricket fans in the city will have to wait 60 days for matches to resume after Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) cancelled all activities due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

LIMPOPO – LIC CEO, Tommy Phiri says meetings were held by Cricket South Africa (CSA) which resulted in new resolutions taken regarding planned games to be played.

“All games have been cancelled with immediate effect for the next 60 days. This includes first class cricket, club cricket, junior and amateur cricket (KFC mini-cricket) under the control of CSA. Included in this cancellation are all committee, board and other meetings.

“All non-essential travel is discouraged and airports should be avoided at all costs.”

Clubs were also told not to hold meetings unless they are held over the phone and no practices should take place.

“There will be no awards held or prize-givings and no public gatherings for any cricket related activity will be allowed. It was also mentioned that the 60 days can be shortened or lengthened depending on how the pandemic is managed and the CSA board will monitor the situation and report periodically,” Phiri confirmed.
