Cyclist demands ‘Respect’ despite his challenges

Respect Ramashia has a daily struggle with transport but never misses the opportunity to practice or take part in events.

POLOKWANE – Respect Ramashia is still learning the tricks of cycling, but showed that he has the talent to go far in the sport during the recent Polokwane Pedallers Cycling Club (PPCC) awards ceremony where he was awarded the best senior cyclist and the cyclist of the year trophies.

He received a special mention at the event because even though he has a daily struggle with transport, he never missed the opportunity to practice or take part in events.

“I started four years ago after watching the Absa Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race. I told myself that I wanted to be one of the people on a bicycle one day,” he says.

He adds that cycling is a sport that teaches you to be strong as a person. “Cycling teaches you to be fit, competitive and have endurance. Cycling is something that you cay enjoy on your own and with friends, making the sport something that you can love.”

He says the best thing about the sport is that it makes you feel free and gives you the opportunity during races to meet various people.

He would like to see more young people get involved in the sport and make it a family event that will bring people closer.

“If you have a dream do not let anything stand in your way to achieve it. Make it happen for yourself,” is his motto.
