Mzansi Athletics gives back to the community

Molapo Primary School, located at Ga-Mothapo, recently became a beneficiary of stationery and sanitary towels for needy girls thanks to Mzansi Athletics Club.

POLOKWANE – The gift forms part of donations the club makes as part of their third birthday celebrations. The club celebrated their birthday last month and requested runners around Polokwane to make donations to assist those who are less fortunate. “Mzansi AC is not just a running club that encourages members of community to participate in athletics to lead a healthy life. We are a responsible social civil society with interest in make a contribution to the general society to ensure that the lives of people is improved. It is for this reason that this kind of gesture has become part of the club’s birthday celebrations. We believe that when young ladies have access to the basics, their interest and confidence to participate in sport develops,” Chairperson Richard Rambiyana said.

Mzansi AC was represented by Somisa Nukeri at the handover. She is passionate about assisting young ladies to become the best they can be. She is the head of the social responsibility desk of the club. In response to the need expressed by the school, Somisa promised to go back and persuade runners and all interested, to donate school uniforms and more sanitary towels.

According to the school management, several learners’ parents cannot afford to buy school uniforms and other basic necessities. They however indicated that when it comes to stationery, the Department of Education are doing their best to ensure that all learners are catered for.

“We as Mzansi would like to thank all runners in Polokwane for making this possible. Especially runners from the Runners Polokwane Group which comprises mainly of runners from Mzansi AC, Polokwane AC, 015 Athletics Club, Fat Cats AC and others who are not affiliated to clubs. Lastly, we plead to anyone who has the means to donate,” Richard said.
