POLOKWANE – Ke-yona Polokwane! The Nedbank Cup is the Premier Soccer League’s premier club knockout tournament and stands out from the rest of the PSL tournaments.

The cup allows the lower league and amateur clubs a chance to compete with clubs in the top tier of South African football.

The tournament features 16 PSL clubs, eight National First Division (NFD) clubs and eight South African Football Association (SAFA) teams.

Besides the R7 million which is up for grabs, the winning team will automatically gain entry into the CAF Confederations Cup. With a prize pool of more than R20 million for the cup and the lowest ranked team walking away with at least R100 000, the Nedbank Cup is a rewarding tournament.

This year’s cup will see an exciting derby between Polokwane City and Baroka FC on 11 February at the Peter Mokaba Stadium and is expected to attract soccer fans from all over Limpopo.

Bakgakga ba Mphahlele will go into the match with good spirits after they beat Rise and Shine in both their Absa Premiership matches.

City is currently at the bottom of the league with 20 matches and 17 points, while Baroka are in 13th place with 21 points.

Baroka’s Executive Marketing Manager, Richard Mashabane told BONUS that is however not going to be an easy game.

He added that Baroka’s main focus currently is the premiership.

“We will give players who did not get a chance to play league games a chance to play in the Nedbank Cup game so that we know who is match-fit for the league. The derby is all about pride and we have been preparing well. Our players have a hunger to win and they want to prove a point,” he said.
