‘Warchild’ jabs for junior lightweight title

LIMPOPO -The South African junior lightweight non-title fight came Rofhiwa ‘War Child’ Maemu’s way recently after he defeated Thembani Hobyane on points during the Royal Boxing Challenge that was held at the Sibasa 2Ten Hotel.

The third annual tournament, held last Friday, was staged by Nzhelele Women Sports Promoters.

Thembani Hobyane and Rofhiwa Maemu exchange fists durin the fight.

Thovhele Vho-Gole Mphaphuli, who attend the tournament, told boxers to aim to continuously improve.

He praised the promoter, Mashudu Nekokwane, who came up with the idea of producing young boxers.

“Ms Nekokwane, the Chairperson of the promoting body, said her aim was to develop rural young people, keep the youths off the streets and prevent them from abusing alcohol. I saw huge talent from Vhembe today.”

Maemu said that although he was nervous at first, he enjoyed the match.

In the main supporting bout for the vacant provincial lightweight title, Tshifhiwa ‘Timer’ Munyai lost to Prince Ndlovu on points.

Tshifhiwa ‘Spider’ Munyai won on points against Kabelo Bititsha from Gauteng in the lightweight non-title fight over eight rounds.

Dion Mmbubane was beaten on a technical knockout by Gerald Titus in the featherweight division.

Gregory Mello emerged as the champion in the bantamweight division when he beat Khayalethu Mbhedje.Takalani Ramuedi was beaten by TKO by Lindokuhle Dlamini in the lightweight division.

In the flyweight division, Rofhiwa Maphupha overpowered Jenson Mudzanani.
