Leopards hold Chiefs to draw

Struggling Black Leopards held the current log leaders of the Absa Premier League, Kaizer Chiefs, to a 1-1 draw at a packed to capacity Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.

LIMPOPO – Leopards showed no respect for their older brothers and matched them pound for pound in all departments.

Samir Nurkovicv, Chiefs’ top goal scorer, could not display his usual skills, as Edwin Gyimah had marked him tightly.

The home side’s Robert Ngambi came close to scoring, but his attempt missed the target by a whisker.

The referee issued his first yellow card to Isaack Masia of Defenders for rough play on Lebogang Manyama.

Chiefs missed a golden opportunity when their dribbling wizard, Willard Katsande, forced his way through from the far left corner but shot wide.

They broke the deadlock, however, when Leonardo Castro took a header from a corner kick.

Leopards’ equaliser came in the 31st minute when Mogakolodi Ngele’s shot from a free kick hit the back of the net with a brilliant strike.

Gyimah suffered the pain of watching the ball going beyond his reach, after he had unleashed a powerful shot from within the box. The half-time score was still 1-1.

Dumisani Zuma nearly brought Chiefs back into the game, but his shot went wide a few minutes before the final whistle.

Black Leopards Edwin Gyimah was named man of the match.
